Your Role on the Team
The Finance Assistant for the Department of Surgery plays a key
role in supporting day-to-day financial operations, with a focus on
accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. Responsibilities include
initiating and tracking purchase orders, overseeing procurement
activities using the department's PALCard, and providing general
financial and administrative assistance. This position requires
strong attention to detail and regular coordination with faculty,
staff, vendors, and central administrative units to ensure timely
and policy-compliant financial transactions. The Finance Assistant
serves as a critical contributor to the department's fiscal
integrity and operational excellence.
What It Takes to be Successful
Required:
- Prociency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to responsibly manage department purchasing activity
through procurement cards, including documentation, reconciliation,
and recordkeeping in accordance with UC retention policies.
- Ability to manage purchases in full compliance with audit and
policy standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent experience
- 1-3 years At least 2 years of experience in financial
assistance, purchasing, or related fields (e.g., administrative
roles in logistics, transportation, or other operationally complex
